Data Engineering Lead

Job description

The job title for this role could be a combination of a few different skill sets or a specialist that we compliment with others i.e. A Head of Data partnered with a Data engineer or a Senior Data Engineer that has upskilled in science or analytics. This could be a great opportunity for someone who has wanted to work with big data but design their own data stack and lead a team. Maybe you are frustrated by the rigidity of your current employer or role and want more freedom in how, when and where you work and more input to the bigger picture.

We prefer to look for the right people first and then fine-tune job descriptions so the below is a guide for what we are looking for. Linktree aims to be data-led in their product decisions in the near future, requiring someone to join us and analyse our current data practices, design the big data structures and our tech stack, then optimise and then grow our data team

Data at Linktree is a key area of growth for us, with advanced data analytics being a big part of future product features we offer our users. Our aim is to be able to make informed product decisions from our data, as well as give our customers advanced data insights when using our product.

Our ideal person would have:

  • Experience in SaaS companies in Senior Data Engineering roles, with Data architecture experience
  • A desire to be very hands-on in the role and grow into a more strategic and managerial role
  • Experience building data pipelines, big data warehouses and shipping features
  • Ability to lead your own department in the future and collaborate with Engineering, Product and Marketing teams
  • Personable, clear and constructive communication skills
  • Understand the challenges (and benefits) of working in a growing startup. If things need to get done, you do them!
  • Curiosity. Experiment. We aren't looking for someone to do BAU data work. We want someone to put us ahead of the game
  • Like the idea of coming into a near Greenfield Data environment and turning into a well oiled data machine

        Requirements

We are fairly technically agnostic when it comes to our Data stack and you will have a lot of input into how we structure that moving forward, but some of the tech and tools we are currently using:

        • Experience with Redshift and/or Presto/Athena, Hadoop, Google BigQuery and using them for best practice data architecture
        • Comfortable working with event stream data from at least one analytics platform like Adobe Analytics or GA360
        • Experience with ETL scheduling technologies with dependency checking, such as Airflow, as well as schema design and dimensional data modelling
        • Python (or R) and relevant libraries (e.g. Pandas and NumPy)
        • Advanced SQL in an analytics environment

Bonus points for experience with BI tools like Metabase, Looker, Tableau etc

          The Linktree story…

The Linktree journey begins in 2016, when co-founders Alex, Anthony and Nick were running a digital agency and using Instagram to make announcements about the artists they managed. Created as a side hustle to solve a simple problem, Linktree has well outgrown its roots, with over 5 million users worldwide, 10,000 - 15,000 new signups every day and over 120 million unique views per month. Paired with rapid growth, Linktree has recently garnered much attention in the tech world, earning 4th place on Fast Company's "10 most innovative social media companies of 2020".

The Linktree audience is broad, spanning publications, artists, celebrities, fashion and beauty influencers, YouTube stars, sports teams and household brands, right the way through to individuals with a side hustle and micro-influencers. Linktree subscribers include Alicia Keys, Selena Gomez, Pharrell, Jamie Oliver, Vice, Red Bull, Adult Swim, Patreon, Naomi Campbell, Comedy Central, Gordon Ramsay, Billabong…and many more!

This is a full-time role based out of our office in Collingwood (although all working remotely during Covid and we are great with flexible working arrangements) but we are open to remote and flexible working. Some of our Engineering team are already fully remote.
