Content moderation lead

Job description

The role:

You will start by designing Linktree's content policies. Then you’ll be growing a team of content moderation specialists to enforce these policies. Our userbase is growing by around 30,000 a day, in almost every country on earth. We need someone to make sure our platform is safe and inclusive for all of our users.

This is a highly cross-functional role. Reporting into the Head of Strategy & Operations, you will work closely with our General Counsel to update our policies, partner with our customer support team to keep on top of potential issues, as well as work with our partnership team to escalate high value/high visibility issues.

Our ideal candidate has incredibly high EQ, is able to balance competing points of view and thrives in ambiguity.

What is Linktree?

The Linktree journey begins in 2016 when co-founders Alex, Anthony and Nick were running a digital agency and using Instagram to make announcements about the artists they managed. Created as a side hustle to solve a simple problem, Linktree has well outgrown its roots, with over 10 million users worldwide, 28,000 + new signups every day, and over 120 million unique views per month. The Linktree audience is broad, spanning publications, artists, celebrities, fashion and beauty influencers, YouTube stars, sports teams and household brands, right the way through to individuals with a side hustle and micro-influencers. Linktree subscribers include Alicia Keys, Selena Gomez, Pharrell, Jamie Oliver, Vice, Red Bull, Adult Swim, Patreon, Naomi Campbell, Comedy Central, Gordon Ramsay, Billabong…and many more!

In 2020 we went from 15 people to 60 and 3 million users to over 10 million but the projections are for even greater growth in 2021. We started out of Melbourne but now have staff in Brazil, Ireland, LA and across Australia. We have offices in Melbourne, Sydney and soon LA but are open to this role being based anywhere in Australia or the US.

Requirements

To be suitable for this role, you will need:

    • 5 + years in content moderation, trust & compliance or similar roles, ideally within SaaS companies
    • Able to investigate and make recommendations on how Linktree should respond to challenging content
    • Experience in writing policies and be able to identify grey areas and make recommendations to the leadership team
    • Experience in managing a content moderation team. You will be the first hire in this team but then hire and grow a team under you
    • Experience working in startups to be familiar with the speed and adaptability required
    • Curiosity and love for experimentation

    Company culture

We hire with a people-first approach, so more importantly as a human, you will be collaborative, curious, enjoy solving complex problems and have empathy for the growing pains of a rapidly scaling startup.

Linktree's company culture and values are based around collaboration, diversity, inclusion, and flexibility. Those are all nice words but to give you some more specific examples:

    • We are a family-friendly and flexible work environment with our team with a number of our team working hours around school and home commitments.
    • We have several diversity and inclusion initiatives underway, including a D&I council, training for all staff on neurodiversity and the incorporation of a transgender inclusion policy.
    • Our team is diverse across age, gender, and race and we are very proud of that.
    • Due to being a global company, we will be a mixed remote and in-office company with many roles being open to different locations
    • We prioritise our team's mental health, with all employees have free access to Smiling Mind & Uprise, including 1:1 coaching sessions from qualified psychologists or counselors.
